By the completion of the course, students will be able to: 1. Examine the connection between English sounds and spelling. 2. Describe and analyze the advantages and disadvantages of phonics instructions. 3. Design exercises and activities using phonics rules.
授業概要
This course is designed for students who are interested in phonetics and phonology. The main topic of the semester is English sounds and spelling. English does not seem to have a one-to-one correlation between letters and sounds. We will discuss the historical background that resulted in the irregularity of the present orthographic system and explore the scope for regularity. We will also study phonics -the method of teaching reading through the connection between sounds and spelling. We will practice designing exercises and activities using phonics rules.
